A man on the run. A gal protecting her family. Does love have a chance?
Alice and her thirteen-year-old brother are heading to Fort Macleod with their two young nieces expecting their older brother will provide them a home. When her younger brother is badly injured in an accident, Alice doesn’t know how she can continue on her own.
Rudy Powers has never known a real home. Being alone suits him, making it easy to move on to greener pastures and the next adventure. But now he’s on the run after witnessing a cold-blooded murder. On his way to Fort Macleod to seek the protection of the Mounties he comes across Alice and her brood. He needs to stay one step ahead of the killer to save himself, but he can’t abandon them.
As they travel together his lonely heart yearns for the love she so easily dispenses to her family. She’s everything he’s never had. But being with her puts her life and the lives of the others in danger.
Though Rudy is appealing and caring, Alice knows not to expect more than temporary help from a hard-riding, itchy-footed cowboy on the run. But despite the danger surrounding him, she sees something in him that could break down her own barriers.
Can this way pair fight for the very things they secretly yearn for, or will Rudy’s past threaten everything they’ve found?
